When we look at Arts from a broader perspective, there is a wide array of art forms that functions for a variety of purpose. It could be informative, subjective, persuasive, and much more purposive motive but on top of that, arts give us enlightenment in which we view things thoroughly that we don’t usually see, art is a movement that gives symbolic meaning to what is happening in reality and with that arts makes our imaginations come into a reality.
The song “Mahal Kong Pilipinas” was written by JMARA AND MEDMESSIAH that was produced on March 13, 2022. It comprises a 6-minute music video that gives us an overview of what this song is all about. A song and a video that accurately tells us the true story behind the chaotic cycle of poverty in the Philippines. This music gives us 3 phases of a subject that we need to look up to. The first phase is the never-ending cycle of how worse poverty is in our country; questioning their nationalism if they deserve to live like this. The second phase gives us a light of hope that no matter how hard life throws upon us, a Filipino is always a Filipino with an overflowing jar of resiliency. And the third phase is where the religiousness of a Filipino is recognized.
Why do you think this song is composed in the first place?
Is it solely for the purpose of subjecting the primary problem in our country to get several views? Maybe yes and maybe not, because evidently, this music is shouting a message, giving realizations, and looking for hope on how we resolve this crisis. And what does this imply to the contemporary arts in the Philippines? Arts in a contemporary world isn't just about making a product out of what's in the mind of an artist, but it is more about speaking up for the voices of the Filipinos that aren't being heard.
We see that upon looking into the deeper perspective in a single art form we see different aspects that conceptualize the contemporary Philippine society by giving the situational reality of our culture that we are currently facing. And it is all in the means of arts conforming to its purpose and serving its function to our society by giving us another dimension of perspective to how reality is transcribed in arts.
